Interface Ride

by Cathy Dollarhide

On May 15th Doug and I hosted a ride up in the Interface Recreation Area in Avery (by Arnold). The drive was not too bad, just up Highway 4 past the Ranger Station and a left on Avery Sheep Ranch Road. The road to the trailhead was about a mile on the right and, at that point, a little challenging due to the winter weather.

Doug and I had put out some signs out with hopes that some folks would find us. Around 9:30 we were alerted by various noises that we had been found! Eleven riders found us and we headed out on the trail around 10:30.

A group called the Arnold Rim Trail Association (ARTA) is still working on the markers. It's a good idea to stop at the Ranger Station and get a map of the area. The trail actually goes from where we started, 10 miles to Arnold and ends at the Lumber Museum. The ride goes through streams, Dogwood forests and some rocky trail. The Dogwood trees were finishing their bloom but they were still beautiful.

We ate lunch at a spot called Cougar Mountain where a group from the Gold Country Horseman's Association (GCHA) found us. The area was beautiful and you could look out to see the whole valley. At this point we could have continued on the 10-mile trek but we decided to turn around and head back. This is a nice place to ride when the weather gets hot in the valley. I would go again!
